The unspoken and shared understanding of what it means to be a runner can be seen in the kinship between runners. When 40,000 people line up to run the Chicago Marathon, or when 130 line up at a high school cross-country race, they can look each other in the eye with a certain respect, awareness, and comprehension that is prohibitively elusive for the non-runner. Before, during, and after the race, the fellowship between runners is tangible and real. The brotherhood and sisterhood of the running community can be felt in the air as they inhale a collective like-mindedness. To be a runner in the midst of other runners just before the start of a race is a mystical experience that can no more be captured in words than can the color blue. — Adam Goucher & Tim Catalano, Running the Edge (via dodgingtraffic)

Came across a herd of elk today running about 200 feet in front of me on my run. Once they saw me they abruptly turned and headed the other way. A passing truck stopped to wait with me as she watched this happen. The elk were then circling their young because a coyote was in the field. Yikes… Country running can almost cause me to wet my pants!!

500 days

Just about finished reading Born to Run and I also recently read a blog called joggingjeans.com. What better way to celebrate day 500 of my running streak than to run barefoot in jeans, skinny jeans at that! I have to admit that I lasted just over a km barefoot, then I had to put on my shoes…
