Running and coffee - managing jet-lag effectively
I have managed to keep running in the midst of jet lag. What I have learned is that running helps with the “fogginess” that comes with being over tired. The fresh air and increased oxygen intake feels so good, that and a good cup of coffee of course!

Traveling runner...
I am traveling with my husband to his conference in Norway, so excited! Our first stop is Prague ( well not really our first stop because we are on the milk run). I have heard Prague described as the “new Paris”, well Paris is my favorite city so I will have to make my own judgement.
I love to run in new places, breaking ground, discovering sites I would not see otherwise. Running...

Finding balance ...
I have a somewhat complicated relationship with running… and I am I pretty sure it is not the running that is complicated, it’s me. I can confuse the pureness of running with all sorts of numbers that can (if I let it) dictate whether or not I find satisfaction in a run. Was I fast enough? Did I run long enough? Far enough? Am I good enough? Crazy thoughts for an everyday runner...

Hurt verses harm ...
So, I have had a lovely tooth issue for the past week or so (okay more) … after much denial … I went to visit my dentist. He usually tries the simplest procedure first, which just doesn’t work for me. Well to make a boring story shorter, I had crazy nerve pain for 5 days which was all consuming. Today I returned to my dentist and had a root canal! I have never been so happy to...

The countless benefits of running...
I am a registered nurse and I have worked with many individuals who suffer with depression and anxiety. I attended a forum discussing the benefits of exercise, especially cardio, in combatting mental illness. Exercise may not eliminate the need for medication but it can impact the dosage required (of course this needs to be discussed with the attending physician).
Just in my personal journey,...

Running is a journey ... not a sprint
I think all to often we as runners are too hard on ourselves. Although there is always room for improvement, there are days that we only have so much to give. And that is okay! Running is a a journey … it is not meant to be treated as a sprint. If we beat ourselves up when a long run doesn’t go as planned, or if we fall short on our goals for a race, we need to stop and celebrate our...

Running, the perfect antidote...
I have been a runner for many years … and although I love being surrounded by fellow runners, sometimes this just is not possible in my everyday life. This is where tumblr is so fantastic! I can read other blogs and find encouragement through sharing experiences, information, thoughts, feelings, triumphant moments and the not-so-triumphant moments.
Running is not an exclusive club, the more...

crazy runners...
This morning was nice but of course I decided to delay my run until the late afternoon … just when a snowstorm blew in - heavier than predicted… of course. So, I laced up my shoes, added my grips, leashed my dog and headed out into the cold and blowing snow. My dog was very excited to prance randomly through the fresh snow drifts but I needed to focus and keep us running in a straight...

it is my privilege to run . . .
Although this weekend I felt distracted and maybe a little disjointed from running, I felt thankful. Thankful not only that I have the physical ability to run but I have the freedom to run.
I am a nurse and throughout my career I have met people who were only able to run in their dreams. I learned to measure life differently and to be able to celebrate how God has blessed me - without guilt but...

I know I will run today ... just haven't yet
At times (ok… a lot of times) I am a running procrasinator. I assess my day, think about times that I can run and then aim for it. If my day is not particularly busy, it can take quite a while before I get my butt out the door! My solution is to run everyday (not allowing for any excuses) because it is not will I run but when. I run at all different times of the day and that works for...
